“HA… Turns out that sleeping and eating is actually pretty important. Who knew?!”
This was a reflection, a ‘moment of genius’, for my sister and I, about a month ago, reunited at our family home, whilst making sense of our lives as twenty-somethings.
I think we both grew up just a little bit that night. And then I realised how ‘unphilosophical’ and natural that flash of insight SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
Since leaving university, I fell prey to that all too common Graduate Crash, (I’m reassured by my best friend that this happened to Miranda Hart just before her big break into success and happiness- only a slight moment of reassurance). In other words, I made the maximum out of every single day at uni, gained so much in skills, experience and made some really great friends, travelled Europe on a shoe string- and achieved a lot of things that I am really proud of, and will never forget.
All that, however, at the expense of my health- and my sanity it seems!
[Disclaimer: I was not a heavy drinker. I didn't realise this until I was dubbed with the name 'Tea-Total' on a club tour- cringe. I easily manage to be unhealthy enough without hangovers, somehow]
Listen to your body
I’ve been learning all sorts of crazy things about “listening to my body” through yoga and zenfullness recently. And it’s true, I had been living in my head all this time- completely ignoring my health and all sense of normality.
So that’s it! I’m combining my love for café-hopping and searching for the best flat whites/espresso/loose leaf teas- result of a mispent/well-spent childhood, (mum!), with my restaurant hunter instincts and love for travelling to see if I can get to grips with how to eat happy and healthy- whilst still enjoying life and continue to reach for those crazy career dreams. Turns out there is no manual for that- because I’m sure the writing and photography would be much better than mine if there was…
(Doodles on travels through Belgium).
In simple terms: if I find a restaurant or café that has the feel good factor for me, I will blog it.
Who knows, I might figure out the great mystery of healthy, happy normality at the bottom of some coffee cup in Soho… I guess I’ll keep exploring and see.
(Belgium again! This was certainly a foodie holiday… but more on that soon!)
